About us | The Sahlgrenska Center for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research at Gothenburg
University is a Center-of-Excellence funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. The Center is focused on defining the underlying mechanisms of the metabolic syndrome of insulin resistance and developing strategies to prevent and treat its lifethreatening complications. A major goal of our Center is also to help young scientists and physician-scientists acquire all the necessary skills needed to launch successful careers in translational medicine. The Center is based on partnerships between clinical and basic medical sciences, bioinformatics and applied mathematics, and a close interaction with industry. These partnerships stimulate highly innovative interdisciplinary research and foster networks between research communities of different traditions and cultures. The Center integrates unique and well-defined patient populations, established platforms for human genetics and expression analysis, mouse genetics, and biochemistry and experimental cellular biology. Participating groups use a wide range of powerful technologies such as expression analysis, conventional and conditional gene targeting in mice, gene transfer, laser-capture microdissection, cell sorting, advanced mass-spectrometry-based lipid analysis, biochemistry, cell biology, computer modeling, and bioinformatics. | |
Contributions | P08 has strong expertise in the assembly of lipid droplets as well as the developement of atherosclerosis and the role of macrophages in this process. P08 will paticipate in WP5 elucidating the mechanism involved in the assembly of lipid droplets and the changes in this process that is induced by hypoxia, focusing on human macrophages. P08 will also (within WP5) clarify the role of PAT proteins for the development of acrophage derived foam cells | |
